About Us Marco vanGemeren Owner and
Petrographer
Mr. vanGemeren earned a B. A. in Geology
from the University of Vermont in 1980.
He worked in the mining and petroleum industries and as a technician for the
Department of Geological Sciences at Harvard
University. While there he recognized the need for high quality sample preparation
for a variety of analytical techniques. With strong mechanical and machine shop
skills and a love of rocks and minerals, he advanced the quality standard of
polished thin sections. He developed modern methods to make the process
more efficient. In 1985 he founded Mineral Optics Laboratory to provide
scientists with the highest quality polished thin sections available. He is a
dedicated craftsman, and values his clients' business and prides himself on
getting quality results.
